About

COVEN by Sonia Kang is a casting of magic, metal and gemstones. Her work bridges tradition and innovation, infusing handmade jewellery with the magic of storytelling, cultural heritage, and personal expression. Each piece explores the interplay between raw, elemental material — hypoallergenic metals, Jade, and gemstones — and the human stories they carry.

Drawing inspiration from a deep reverence for ancestral craftsmanship partnered with a modernized aesthetic. Through partnerships with multi-generational family-owned businesses in Hong Kong, China and Myanmar, she sources and designs Jade pieces imbued with history and spirit, creating modern heirlooms that connect wearers to their own narratives.

Sonia Kang, the designer behind COVEN, embodies a rich blend of cultural influences. Of Taiwanese heritage, she was born in Argentina and raised in Canada. A self-taught artist, Sonia gained hands-on experience in 2012 during an internship with popular Canadian jewellery designer Jenny Bird, setting the foundation for her creative journey.

Most COVEN pieces are crafted from hypoallergenic metals such as gold-fill, gold vermeil, sterling silver, and stainless steel, ensuring they are suitable for sensitive skin. Exceptions include vintage chains and findings, which are clearly noted.

At COVEN, we believe jewellery is a timeless investment meant to be cherished, but it shouldn’t come at the expense of the planet. That’s why we prioritize sustainability by incorporating recycled metals, deadstock vintage findings, and ethically sourced gemstones. Our precious metal pieces cast locally in North America, adhering to strict safety standards, while we also support local suppliers and hire locally to ensure fair wages. Our employees are paid Toronto living wages. Learn more about our COVEN Philosophy HERE.

COVEN pieces were featured in Ellements Magazine, Auxillary Magazine and Blog, La Damme Magazine in the UK, W25 Magazine, Ottawa Fashion Week 2012 with INNA Clothing, Fashion Series, COCO Magazine, and sponsored Dystropolis at FAT 2013. In 2014, she was nominated for the Alternative People's Choice Awards for Top Jewelry Designer.
