The Helios necklaces use Carnelian which is one of humanity’s oldest gemstones and has been used since the ancient times. This necklace has a pleasant balance of different size beads and adds interest to any necklace stack. Carnelian complements green gemstones the best as it is on the opposite side of the colour spectrum.
Carnelian is a vibrant reddish-orange variety of chalcedony, valued for thousands of years for its beauty and durability. In ancient Egypt, it symbolized life force and protection, frequently used in amulets, jewelry, and burial items to guide and guard the soul. The Greeks and Romans admired it for its hardness and lustre, carving it into seals and signet rings used to stamp wax without sticking.
In Asia, Carnelian was also deeply appreciated. In India, it was used in traditional jewelry and believed to protect the wearer from harm, featuring in early Ayurvedic and spiritual practices. It appeared in Buddhist traditions, often inlaid in ritual items or carved into prayer beads. In China, it was used on occasion in ornamental carvings and adornments, valued for its warm, life-giving appearance.
Across cultures, Carnelian came to represent vitality, courage, and social status. Today, it remains a popular gemstone, connecting modern wearers with its rich and diverse history.
